The Jackson Purchase Friends of Bluegrass Newsletter for June, 2010!
As in years past, May was Bluegrass Month, and once again we
did it up right! Thanks to my friend,
Carroll Wayne Cope, whom I understand , in my absence, hosted one of our best
ever Bluegrass Nights, with especially good performances by “Poor Farm Road”, “The
Lakeside Review”, “Old Santa Fe”, and “The Ridge Runners”.
I was present for our second May event, when on
Friday May 21st, thanks to our continued partnership with the City
of Benton, Kentucky, we had one of our best ever “Bluegrass On The Square” nights
with “The Josh Williams Band” and “The Ridge Runners”. I am happy to announce
that our help for the Marshall County Caring Needline pantry netted an
increased amount of non-perishable food, and $451.00 in cash donations as well.
Our thanks go out to the staff of WAAJ Radio, along with Terri Williams and
Charlene Jameson for collecting the food and cash, and to Clarence Hatfield for
delivering the donations to the Needline office after the show.
Our next Bluegrass gathering will take place on Friday June 4th, at the
Kentucky Opry. We will have a slightly modified format from what we normally do. The open
Jam will start at 6:30 PM in the lobby, with
performance on the stage beginning at 7:30 PM. We will open with our good
friends “The Bankester Family” followed by a set by “Ken Mallard &
Chickasaw”, then a closing set by “The Bankester Family” again. This should be
a really good night of Bluegrass music! This great family
band has just finished a week of performances at Silver Dollar City in Branson, and has kindly
offered to do their two sets as they performed them there. See you there.
